Warehouses

The warehouse where designed to give a bit of 3d relief to the back drop, they were also designed to create the appearance of a area that has built up over time.

Their construction is very simple and I will only point out a few of the techniques involved.

Windows

The widows are very simple to construct.

  • Cut the window hole in the cardboard.
  • Glue the paper in place.
  • Cut a cross into the window from corner to corner, on windows with a curved top cut the top section into many smaller triangles.
  • Glue and fold back the flaps.
  • Cut a thin strip of card and paint it grey. Then glue it on to the bottom of the window to create the window cill.
  • Wall Plinths, Columns, and General Revels

All of these bit are created in one of three ways depending on how close you can get to the and how visible they will be when placed on the layout.

  • For simple revels simple let the shadows of the printed texture create the appearance of a revel.
  • For slight revels glue on a thin piece of card then the glue on the paper and press in the edges with a blunt tool (being careful not to rip the paper.
  • For really deep revels first glue the paper to the cardboard, then glue another one on a thick piece of card wrapping around the edges and glue this to the first one.
  • Stone Courses, and Cappings

These can be created by glueing on strips of pre-painted cardboard

A combination of these techniques where used to create these three warehouse, the first and thrd one are modular in design and can be built up in bays using fake gutters to hide the joins. The second on is purpose made to fit behind an old engine shed I built many years ago for a older layout and i never built the fouth one
