The next major reconfiguration came with the instulation of cable broadband to our street, the ISP installers nearly had a fit when they say the server cupboard, but were soon happy when i said i would sort that bit and all they had to do was pull the cable through the existing condut.
With this ment a brain stoming session where it suddleny dawned on us "why carn't we get a machine to do the routing" and low and behold there was the LRP (Linux Router Project), and after finding a simple boot from floppy os, a old Pentium 75, 16Meg of ram and a rack mount case, and five mins latter we had our first gateway (which ran constantly for some 5 years).
